I have a nice neg. ground Smiths clock which works fine when hooked directly to the battery with alligator clips. When installed, not so good. I suspect it is the ground. What is the preferred ground for the clock in a 66 Tiger ??? Thanks.
You do have to start these clocks. To do this you simply turn the hand that sets the clock. Failure to do this can burn out the contacts in the clock. I believe there was a service bulletin that discussed this issue. From what I understand mechanics were failing to restart the clock after disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery. This caused many clocks to die prematurely.
Maybe when you hook it directly to the battery it gets enough juice to start itself but not when hooked up in the car.
First; see Doug's comments. Otherwise, the dash ground loop that hops from item to item is fairly consistant in that it either works or not. If the lights come on and don't flicker, it's fine.
