Early rear view mirror

I recently obtained an early ( small) rear view mirror which is in great condition
but I would like to resilver the mirror. Has anyone removed the mirror without
breaking it and how did you do it ???? It kinda looks like you could soak the
assy in some thinner and soften the glue but I'm not sure what covers the housing
other than paint... Any help would be appreciated :)

This is only partial help, but if you are a member of CAT, there is a small mirror listed and pictured in the Parts section of the website. At least getting one of those would save you the trouble of re-silvering the one you have.

I hope the factory didn't use the same glue they used on my outside Rootes mirrors. I had to brake one to get inside to repair it. The three points the mirror was attached took needle nose pliers and a scraper to remove it. After 46 years it was still ply-able and tough as nails.

Thanks Gene I had not seen that item on the inventory list and that
will save me a bunch of hastles. The later mirrors have the glass held in with
double sided tape and are easy to remove but the smaller early ones
are set in concrete or something and difficult. I have tried lacquer thinner
for about a half hour and not much has happened !!! With a replacement mirror
I can take it out in hunks....
