The car has blury pics, and is missing many expensive parts, steering wheel, air filter housing, fan shroud, then there are little things like the SUNBEAM plates by the Tiger scripts, external screw tail lights, rocker covers.

I'd be spending 85K on the beautiful TAC'd black MKII advertised here and in the Uk STOC site.. lots of LAT options and a detailed resto by a well known specialist

The market for classic cars is over valued and this is just another typical move to try and "hype up" prices of tigers even further imho!

The beautiful $85k black mk11 has not sold yet so even that car may be a little expensive for potential buyers?

I think I will wait until the market cools down before I try and by a mk11?;)

Ash,

To be honest, unless you can weld and do paint.. i think you would struggle to reproduce that MKII for the 85K... now i know lots of cars get more spent in a resto than their potential re-sale value, but if you think a decent resto candidate MKII is going to cost you in the region of 35-40K you are going to be up for another 40K unless you can do work yourself.. and thats providing its not missing MKII specific parts.. the wheel arch trims, gauges and grill/grill surround put you in serious $ .. as for the headlight rims.. they are on the up again too!..

Do you think there is any logic to the cost of MK11 parts or is it simply when bid fever sets in?

I don't remember seeing a set of headlight rims on Evil bay before and so is that the reason for the high price?

BONs turned up very rarely and so the prices have gone up a great deal.
In the in the past week 2 have turned up and the selling prices have dropped.

Hi Mike

You are right with the costings but that does not always dictate the value of the finished article?

Personally I would love to buy a car and take on the restoration myself as I enjoy doing the work.

The MKII rims turn up on ebay reasonably regularly. They have been steadily on for the last 6-7 years (S/H and NOS). They peaked at an average of about US450-500 a few years back, then dropped to around 350-400 in the last 12 months.

A side note is that technically, if they are chrome they are not MKII rims.

Non peak rims are always in demand, the variation is probably based on how many people need them at one time.

Ash, we are on the same page, as in I was saying they cost more than their ultimate sale value. In the case of the black car I think at the price it is now (85K) it will probably find the right buyer, it's high but i can see that being done.

In the case of the black car, the person who restored it is a known expert and there is probably good documentation of the process. Indeed if you were gogin to have one done, its the kind of person you'd send it to.

I guess what i was saying is, if you want a high end car done right, and were gogin to be paying people to work on the car.. you are better off buying the black one.

If you can do the work yourself/want to do it.. then sure, your own resto is the way to go.. but if you want to have it done so you know whats been done.. i dont thnk you would be getting better than this car.. so i would pony up for the black one and get straight in and drive/show. :)

That said.. neither option is in my near future!

MKII

michael,
the quality of john's black car is fantastic! the detail work is perfect. there were no parts left untouched. if someone wants a perfect car, this is it! now you know why the body work on my cars is so good. same guy did this MKII and my wife's alpine in that year.
