The 260ci engine pulled out of my 1967 Sunbeam Tiger reveals the following numbers: 040E-6015E
Can any one explain what it references and means? Thanks for any assistance.

Check again and make sure you're "0's" are not "C's." 1st position is the decade, ie, C = 1060's. Second position = Year of decade, ie, 1964. 3rd position = car line, ie Fairlane. 4th position = Engineering group.

Looks like a 5 bolt 289 made in 1964.

I posted 1060's and should have been 1960's. Also the casting date code, above doesn't mean it was "made" in 1964;but rather began in 1964. To find out more about your engine look at the manufacturing date code stamped on the top of the engine block below where the distributer would go and above the fuel pump. Here's a photo of my 260 engine date code. May 22, 1964. My car was built October 26, 1964, MK1. Cliff

Engine block casting #'s

Thanks for your assistance. The first letter of the date code is indeed a "C".
