Default shifter lower fitout

I have received the truniun and springs to fit in the 2 holes in the end of the shifter. I need help, if the rubber bush is supposed to fit the hole, it has to be jammed in with no room left for the spring or the cap. What is the correct way.

The 2 rubber gromits do fit the lower mounting holes. I did not have success with fitting them with the mounting bolts, maybe half of the rubber stayed in the hole with the bolts tight
