Tom's alpine got some press on the motor trend website, amazing what a Hollywood connection can do, it got billing with works cobras, BMW 328's etc...

I think Mr Thorndyke may have feared that the little Alpine might beat his Thorndyke Special in the race. He may have sent his man to sabotage the car. The little Alpine completed the pace lap and then pulled safely off the track with very low oil pressure.
Turns out it didn't have as much heart as Herbie did.

Edit: That happened in the morning session. The car did not make the afternoon grid.

cold day...

It was most likely the very cool weather Sunday morning that was a contributor to the Alpine's down fall.

Tom tried to get some heat in the engine but could not get it above about 120 deg F.

Clearly the low oil temp was a main factor causing the oil line going to the cooler to come off the fitting.

In So Cal, we rarely plan for TOO LOW temps....:(

BTW, Steve Alcala gets the credit and / or blame for the "Love Bug" story board.

It WAS a REAL attention getter!

Also Steve gets a LOT of the credit for the SHINE of the car!

After the big push to get the car "ready" there were some UNdone things!

Cosmetics were way down the list!

Mat and Nathanial put in some MUCH needed final work mounting the passenger seat and what ever needed doing!

THANKS GUYS!!!!:)

Thanks for posting the photos, the corkscrew is one heck of a vantage point!

Looks to have a fair bit of flared work on the front wheel arches to keep the tyres inside the lips... Nice to see at least one sunbeam out there .. if only a short period.

Let's hope 2017 there is a full complement of tigers in the big bore sports class.... And that some alpines get invited too... And perhaps put in a grid that makes sense... That 4b class was a very mixed bag.
