An very rough early Alpine with a homemade or aftermarket fastback hard top is currently on eBay UK. I can't see how the top would work either with or without the boot lid in place.

I think the boot lid was retained and this fastback hardtop covered only part of it. Back in the 70s, there was a company selling fiberglass removable hardtops for many roadsters, including Tigers and Alpines. I think those replaced the boot lid.

It looks like there is one hinge for the opening hatch, hanging down from the hardtop, in your last photo. I would guess there were two such hinges between the hardtop and the hatch. Perhaps the hatch would swing up on these hinges in order to open the boot lid. The hatch looks wider than the boot lid. I am not sure how the hardtop was secured to the car behind the doors, though.

Look at the one photo and you'll see the back

section of the hatch that closes over the trunk space. There were panels included to tidy up the space. Sunbeam contracted Harrington to do a much better conversion of the Alpines.
