Slowly moving forward with the cockpit of the car. After setting up the shifter boot, I painted up the 2 parts of the transmission tunnel.
The sheet metal gets a coat of Rustoleum black satin, then some black speckled trunk paint, and finally some satin clear topcoat.
After all the paint dried over several days, pop riveted the base for the shift boot as well as needed snaps to the painted sheet metal and lastly added a mount for a gauge pod.
Finally time for some heat shield for the transmission tunnel. Had a roll of it, well, the roll was 12"x36" so really a small sheet. The stuff was expensive as I recall. This is aluminized fiberglass with high temperature adhesive.
Pretty easy job if I did it right. Started off OK, but at some point in fitting one of the parts of the tunnel, I had the material on the wrong side, so I had to use the rest of it to cover the mistake. Back to Amazon for more material. I tried some cheaper 'Import' material, that was delivered the next day. It seemed comparable and likely has more asbestos and related dangerous chemicals so might actually be better
You can see the mistake where the adhesive side (yellow backing paper) is facing up, so botched that, hey it's only time and money...
