Following on our adventure last October driving the Historic Route 66 to the Grand Canyon, this year we're cutting the distance down a bit.
We plan to drive 175 miles from Valencia to the community of Ponderosa in the southern Sierra Nevada mountain range. Of those miles, 50 will be on curvey mountain roads. John Morton rates these roads as a "favorite" drive.
We'll meet at the Denny's off the I-5 in Valencia about 8:15 for breakfast and a quick chat about the trip. Then we'll be off to Ponderosa and the Trippel's cabin which are located within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. We'll arrive at Ponderosa in time for a late lunch. Dinner for all at Trippels.
We'll spend the night and then most will return on a slightly different mountain route on Sunday. Some will delay their return until Monday.
