Looking for New Wheels

T.O.C.D. The Mrs. calls it.

I HAVE A SET ON RED TIGER. They are not totally a bolt on deal. German Capri II wheels have the right bolt pattern but used metric lug nuts. Using 7/16 (MOROSO) aftermarket lug nuts, the OD is smaller than the Capri metric nut. A machinist friend made bushings for the aftermarket lug nuts so there is no slop.
OEM caps look good but are expensive. I found some Ford Escort caps that look pretty good. For a picture mounted on a Tiger, Google SUNBEAM TIGER , look through the GALLERY.

Thanks for your response. My car came with 13''s Pannasports and I was lucky to switch into a 14''set. I added to this thread as there is no sub category for Ebay Craigslist finds. I hope someone else can pick these Capri wheels up they have been listed for several weeks now.

I am a little bored with the perfectly good tires and wheels I have, hence my renamed delicate condition I am in therapy for, thanks for the fix doc.

I am interested in a set of Cosmics or the pie cutters as I have heard them called.

Warren,

cosmics are a Uk mad wheel.. "pie cutters" are generally the term for the LAT 9's offered through Rootes USA.

yes

I know the last time I heard of pie cutters they were 2x the price of Cosmics.
Cosmics are really hard to key word search as bicycles have a Cosmic brand.
My pal Lee found a set on a BMW forum . Of the LA area cats I have seen less than 3 out of 30 that have Cosmics.

Most all the vintage wheels have been hoarded up. I have been posting and using small mobile device, hard to see, and it has It's own mind some days.

IDK if the Capri ones are truly Cosmic branded but in the quest for something different they are clearly that. I do not fancy the lug nut mods that are suggested.

Another consideration is how blasted hard it is to keep wheels clean.
Maybe why all or mostly black wheels are really popular now. I spend way too much time cleaning wheels.

Your postings are always appreciated.

I ended up getting a set of Panasports through Dale A. They work great! :)

Sheldon

And, they look great, too! :D Congrats!

Full disclosure: I've run staggered 15" silver Panasports on my black car for over 20 years. The only change I've made was going to black lug nuts last year since the chrome ones were getting a bit tired-looking.

i used to have a setof Cosmics but sold them back in 2008. They were correct sunbeam offset wheels in 13x5.5. They were also used on capris, cortinas and escorts. Another thing i have to say is the Cosmics were VERY light.. i was amazed.. much lighter than superlites or panasports.

There is a company in the UK JBW that makes replicas of cosmics both styles and the Dunlop D1's if you really want a set

I got lucky on my cosmic wheels. Found them on a BMW forum and the correct lug pattern too. Came with brand new 60 series (old) Yokohama tires. Was 400 for the set and they came with 13 inch racing slicks too. I always liked the looks of the Cosmics. I still have the goodyear slicks if anyone wants them cheap. I have been debating Warren about the use of vintage wheels vs modern wheels. If you tiger is modified and a hot rod I guess the modern wheels are the way to go. I like the old original stuff. My Tiger is going to stay mostly stock like. Just my preference. Lee (new member of CAT finally)

Here is a link to a '66 Cosmic Catalogue. In the 13x5.5 size it will show you the first version of the wheel. It was changed slightly a couple of times before a second generation came out, shown in a previous entry from Michael King.

I have had Cosmics since 1967, first on my Alpine, since 1971 residing on my Tiger.
