"Poor Man's 911"??

This looks like a nice example of an Imp. I was surprised to read that the seller says others call the Imp an "poor man's 911". Huh? I could see calling it a British Volkswagen, but comparing it with a 911 seems like too much.

I bet my first VW with a 36 HP motor would give the Imp a run for its money. Silly eBay poster, everyone knows the poor mans Porsche is the Karmann Ghia except for girls back then, they thought it was a Porsche I had 3 of those all drop tops.

As a kid I was taken to the cinema to see Star Wars Episode 4 in an Imp. (1977 I think)

IIRC, they were supposed to be run on 2 or 3 star petrol but sometimes if it wasn't available, it would end up with 4 star.

The car was called Sparky because of the sparks that came out of the exhaust when it was running on 4 star.

After watching Star Wars and driving home in the dark, all the sparks coming out of the back were really cool.
