Windshield glass to frame - sealant needed?

I'm getting ready to install a new windshield glass seal in a freshly painted windshield frame. Should I use any kind of sealant around the glass or does the rubber seal do the job on it's own? I can't find anything here but I saw a video on the Sunbeam Alpine Channel and they don't use any sealant and I'm thinking that is the way to go.

That is a fun job I did not use sealer until after the windshield was installed because it can be messy.
