Hi,
I am in the possession of a 6-blade fan for the Sunbeam Tiger, it regards the desired C9DZ-8600-A made by Ford in Canada. This fan has been laying around in my garage for 29 years and is never used by me. I am now planning to install the fan on my Tiger.
I bought this fan in 1995 from the previous owner in England and he told me that this fan should have altered the centre hole from 5/8 inch to 1 inch and the fan blades should be shortened by 5/8 inch. This fan has orginally a diameter of 15 inch while the original Tiger-fan is 14 inch. So far so good.
However by inspecting this "Canadian" fan I discovered that the centre hole has already been enlarged to 1 inch, so obvisously this must have been done in England, perhaps the previous owner of my TIger had forgotten about that.
Anyhow this was a pleasant surprise and of course I expected the same regarding the fan blades, but.....in spite of the fact that they are shortened this has not been by the 3/8 inch which is advised in the Shop Notes of CAT on page "Cooling A - 17". The total diameter of this "Canadian" fan is now 36,5 centimeter which is 14.37 inch and thus 0.37 inch longer than advised.

My question is: Would this length of 14.37 inch cause a problem when I install this fan on my Tiger or is it necessary to shorten each fan blade more by 0.185 inch (= 4.7 milimeter) in order to reach a diameter of 14 inch for the total fan?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards,

Peter

IF, the motor mounts have sagged (they do this with age) you may want to shim them with a large washer on the top of the hangers. Just check the clearance between the blades and the steering rack. The dimension you quoted should be fine.

Thanks you for your reply Oneoffive!
The motor mounts are just renewed, because one of them was sagged that much that the engine was hanging to one side and on wobbly roads the fan was hitting the steering box.
I just want to be prepared on forehand so that I can install the fan without any delay.
If I understand you right than this fan, with this dimension of of the diameter, i.e. 14.37 inch, can be installed without any problem right?

Re-read my response and keep some large washers handy. 60's tech was only hammer precise after all.
