Archive Trustee Andy Bye recently released this update...
2 years since Grand Opening
Who can believe it is 2 years today since we proudly opened our new Rootes Archive building at Wroxton?
In front of over 210 invited Rootes enthusiasts, who had each personally donated to the building fund, and under blue skies we had a fantastic array of over 100 Rootes vehicles including a stunning display of Commer trucks and the official opening was conducted by Lord Nicolas Rootes and Rev William Rootes who proudly cut the ribbon to formally open it. Here are some photo reminders of the day.
Since the opening the Trustees have been working tirelessly on both fundraising to pay off the outstanding loans along with equipping and cataloguing the archive.
As we stand today, we are extremely proud to say we only have outstanding loans of £13,465 which is a great achievement, for which we thank our many supporters.
We had planned that these loans would have been paid off early in 2021, however, the current COVID-19 pandemic has meant we have had to close the Archive to visitors and cancel all of our Open Days and events. This situation will remain until the Government advise it is safe to re-open, but we anticipate we will be closed for first 6 months of 2020.
This has already had an effect on our fundraising and consequently our ability to repay the loans as quickly as planned which is frustrating given the fundraising effort everyone has put in but at least the archive material is safe.
We also have to pay our ongoing running costs on the Archive building even though we are closed and sadly as a small charity there is no government support available meaning we have to rely on our Rootes supporters so if you have not already joined why not consider becoming a “Friend of the Rootes Archive Trust?”.
For an annual donation, from £15 upwards, you can become a regular supporter of the Trust and play your part in helping to protect this valuable chapter of British motoring history. Message me if you would like a membership form.
We are understandably proud of what has been achieved in preserving the Rootes Archives for generations to come and any donation, no matter how big or small, will be gratefully received so we can maintain our progress on preserving the brand.
Please keep watching our website http://www.rootesarchive.org and our Facebook page for announcements of when our events recommence and stay safe.
