I picked this car up from a warehouse were it had been sitting for the last 32 years. it is now in the middle of being restored to be raced again. the car was bought new at Jarman Motors in Edmonton Canada and turned into a race car by Vince Ciochetti a salesman from Jarman Motors. Vince was sponsored by Jarman Motors for 2 years and then the car moved on to a few more owners till it was retired from racing in 1979. it was entered in a Trans-am race in 1973 in Edmonton but was damaged the day before the race it did qualify 20th in the grid.

Good Luck with Your Project

Thanks for posting the photos and sharing the info about your Tiger. Please continue to update us and let us know how it is coming along. How badly was the car damaged and was the damage repaired before it was laid up for the 32 years? The Tiger looks really nice in the photos.

Good luck in returning the car to the track!

David

Congratulations on getting the car out and ready to work on. Love the old pics and history, please keep us updated.......

Is that the car that a few pics were posted of in a rootes showroom in Canada? The screen looks familiar.

Also I note the rear guards arches have been opened up quite a bit... did the car run bigger wheels.. or very tall tyres at some point early in its career?

Also somewhere in my archives i think i may have some pictures of the car racing in period in CA events.

History

I picked this car up from a warehouse were it had been sitting for the last 32 years. it is now in the middle of being restored to be raced again. the car was bought new at Jarman Motors in Edmonton Canada and turned into a race car by Vince Ciochetti a salesman from Jarman Motors. Congrats on being the new custodian. Luv the history . . . .

This Car was raced only in Canada as far as i know after talking to all the previous owners. The only one i did not have the pleasure of talking to was Vince Ciochetti he Passed last January but did talk to family members. The car ran in the Prarie region of Canada in the early years Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and did quite well. In the 70"s it was race in the Canadian chapionships similar to the SCCA runoffs and did well finishing 2nd 3 years running in BP. The car did run with 15inch tires in the late 60's and early 70's.
If there are pictures of this car on the show room floor I would be interested to see them and put them in the collection of pictures i have.

Skins

Awesome pics wonder how long it ran with those banana skin tires and stock wheels. What does she look like today?

as it sits today

this is the way it came to me. the flares were put on in 1972. the previous owner cleaned them up and made them look better than they were in the
70's

I really need to hunt my archives.. am positive i have pics of the car.. the track was a several part french naem mont sometheing. etc.... will start digging tonight.

Quickie CDN racing history for road racing

First, thanks for sharing your find and planned build with us...great!

Mr. King may be referring to Circuit Mont-Tremblant, which had racing from the mid/late 1960's and continues today?

This book, The Chequered Past; may be a great source of general historic Canada racing info and even has a reference to Sunbeam on a couple pages.

Was fun to do a quick search for other CDN road race info info...

Manitoba: perhaps Gimli in the early 70's?

Or these guys in Winnipeg, betcha they may have some insight.

At any rate, would be a fun project, lots of history to learn.

Keep us updated, eh?

Restore to What Era

I know this question will open up a large rat hole BUT
As this car is still somewhat in pieces and it has been thru alot of different configurations over the years what is the opinion on what era is best to restore this car to.
I am partial to the flares that are on it and in all the history i have gathered the 1970's racing is when it was the most successful but it was also a winning car in 1965 and 1966.
Also is it a dretractent to put in a roll cage or stick to the hoop style it had for many years. The last few years it ran the rules did call for a roll cage and that was cut out of the car years ago.
In the end I think it is best to put it together the way it makes me happy but just looking for a sense of what is the concensus of this group.

I like 'em both...if I had to pick a version, the second iteration would be my choice.

Ops

Finding or having all the correct bits to make it stock is a deep pocket excursion. Quite arguably guys say stock cars sell for more and they are getting harder and harder to drive to the grocery store as a result:eek:

I'd love to have a mid length wind screen like that.

The thing to do maybe is to cull together a nice Alpine donor car or two, to have "just in case," you want to or the next caretaker does, or if you have a brush with the perimeter:eek:

Personally, I have always liked the look of the rear wheel opening as in the first picture. Just like with early Broncos, the stock wheel opening does not look as good as when modified to be larger.

Probably not a good idea to do it on a street car if value is important, but on the race car it is a period correct modification and may not hurt value.
