Exhaust brackets

I noticed a knocking at the rear of the car and found that the rubber bushings that connect the hanger and the bracket at the exhaust tail pipes had deteriorated. I purchased new ones from SS and found that either the hangers were on backwards (by turning them around I can pick up about .75" of the required 1") or they were welded on in the wrong place. Is there a correct position for the hangers (the "U" shaped twisted piece)....ie do they go in front of or behind the welded bracket on the car? Any pictures or assistance is appreciated.

Here is TAC # 9. Very much an unmolested piece.

Exhaust Hanger

I cannot tell if mount is moved, BUT... The engine mounts are handed, if they are installed backwards the engine will move about 1/2" I have heard (some people do this on purpose). That could be an explanation?

Watch Fer Them Molesters

Sorry, that exhaust system was installed by a Redwood City, CA outfit called Lifetime Muffler and is not "unmolested".

Thanks for the info Norm: At least it wasn't ever molested here . . . . .rw

Question ?

PS: How long ago was the exhaust system gone thru? Except for the surface rust (normal) it's it great shape.

Follow up question

So I ground off the welds that were holding the pipe to the "U" shaped bracket and repositioned them with the new SS rubber and the thought occured to me that if I ever had to replace the rubber again and the bracket was welded to the pipe again, the welds would have to be ground off again......are the "U" shaped brackets tack welded to the pipe on the other cars, or does the pipe just hang in them?
Thank you

It's welded; otherwise it will slide & file itself away . . . . .
