Is my differentail broken?

Working on my 66 MK1A, which has not been driven for decades, I noticed that the axles turn without moving the driveshaft mount. Then they engaged slightly, but with a tremendous amount of slip. I seem to remember that they locked up and had no slip. I recently had the rear end serviced and I am wondering if it has not been serviced correctly. Decades ago I would be on top of this but it has been so long since I worked on anything. Is all this slip normal or is it broken?

If you have both rear wheels off the ground and an open differential, the wheels will turn without turning the driveshaft. However, the wheels will turn in opposite directions. If you have a limited slip differential you may have a problem.

Yes, that was the case, rear end was on jack stands. I was working on the brakes. I should have done more research and learning before I asked but I was mildly freaking out. I know better to jump to conclusions when I "don't have all the data" but this time I made the jump quickly. I am 68 years old. I should have done this restoration when I was much younger. I've had my Tiger since the early 1980s. It's been garaged the whole time. I haven't even encountered many frozen bolts. I thought I would be driving it this year but everything is taking longer than I thought it would. Every piece of the car will be restored. That's okay, It'll be on the road in the spring.

In any case, with both tires on the ground, the driveshaft input will not turn unless the car moves. Whew!

Thank you for your time, attention and reply!
