Hello All!

We are excited to announce that your CAT club will be attending the 2024 San Diego British Car Day Sunday October 6that Tidelands Park on Coronado Island.

For quite a while now we have not been making an effort to schedule events in the San Diego area, especially since the demise of the very well loved Coronado Speed Week. If you never attended, back in the mid 2000’s Steve Alcala would get us car corral passes for our Tigers and we’d all park together and then we’d get two full days of fantastic vintage car racing without the exorbitant costs of attending the Monterey Historics/Reunion . I remember at one time I believe we had four Tigers on the track, including the Le Mans Tiger!

One of our San Diego members, Mike Olsen, has reached out to the club as he has just finished restoring his spectacular MKI and would love some good company this year while attending the event. If you’re in the SD area be sure to attend! Save the date and we will keep you up to date when the registration forms are made available as well as what time we can have our club meeting.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there!

Important info from the SD British Car Club president!

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SD BRITISH CAR DAY - Sun Oct 6th
Thank you for registering for the Annual SAN DIEGO BRITISH CAR DAY
Per Port of San Diego regulations, all vehicles must be PARKED on the display field by 9:00 am and are required to remain stationary until the event closes at 2:00 pm.
IF YOU CANNOT ABIDE BY THIS RULE, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT.
If you've already registered and then realize you are unable to comply, please cancel your registration, and request a refund.

A problem we have, but we're preparing to address, is that we have just over 240 cars to place on the display field, and they all have to be in place, parked, by 9:00am. To help address this "rush of activity" we are opening field entry at 6:30, and are seeking more parking volunteers, BUT ... we have a secret weapon!
The secret weapon ..... is YOU!

You can help with this issue by simply turning up EARLY and not leaving your arrival to the last minute! There will be food available for purchase so we suggest get there early, park and go get breakfast!
PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE LATE!
Plan to arrive between 6:30am and 8:30 am, and you will be directed to park in the area reserved for your Marque. Once parked, please walk to the registration tent to check-in and pick up the placard to be displayed on your car.
You're allowed to bring a pop up (EZ up) to this event, but it cannot be set up near the display cars, and it is not permitted to hammer stakes into the ground, so it is recommended that you bring weights to secure it in place so it will not move or blow away if it is windy.

If you have a portable fire extinguisher, it would be a good idea to bring it and to keep it near your car.

YOU can contribute to making SD British Car Day an AMAZING event.
I look forward to seeing you there!
PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE LATE!

Thank you to everyone who came out for British Car Day in San Diego at Coronado Island as it was a beautiful day with some great weather and amazing cars. We had nine Sunbeams attend with 7 Tigers, then a 1954 Alpine brought by Jerome Lester who took 3rd place, and a gorgeous 1938 Talbot 2 litre brought by Sheila and Brian Anderson which took first place in the category. A big thanks to Mike Olsen and his fabulously restored Mk1 who took 2nd place and as designated point man for the Sunbeam marque, helped rally the SD Tiger owners to participate. The day started out so very British with fog and overcast skies for the first few hours, then burning off to a sunny day and all the color of the cars popped. The venue couldn't have been more beautiful being against the water watching cars cross the Coronado Bridge and boats sailing past in the bay. There were a total 237 cars this year, 180 at Tidelands Park Last year and 150 the year before at Spanish landing - each the biggest to date as this show is growing every year! This would be a great venue to try and make an annual event for our club and perhaps we can persuade more members to venture down from the Los Angeles area as Jere Teepen and I were the only Los Angeles area members and it really was a great event worthy of the drive. I'd like to reach out to the organizers and suggest that the Sunbeam category be changed to the Rootes category as there was a lone Hillman Husky tossed into the "Other British Marques" that I would have loved to be in with us.
