Oil Sensor Relocation

Using an older Canton-Mecca filter mount, it uses a synthetic media and is a nice fit for the tiger as the filter changes from the top. It's a non bypass type as well. At some point I spoke with the folks at Canton's tech support and they gave me wrong information when I asked which way the oil should flow as I had conflicting reports. The of course gave me incorrect information. On all the Canton synthetic elements the oil flows from the INSIDE OUT, not like a conventional pleated filter.

So with the initial incorrect information I plumed my oil sender to the center of the filter, was an nice easy one for a change. Guess what that measures the pressure before the filter. So if the filter clogs up, guess what, pressure reads great! So had to do the task of moving the sender to the front where the thickness of the case is, well, thick. I also cut back the outlet fitting, some O-Ring fittings are way too long for the housing and can actually hit the filter. This was an official Canton-Mecca fitting so not too bad, some room for improvement, so I sanded it back a tick just for fun.

Disassembly. drill, pipe tap, sterilize everything, reassemble. Not to bad...

Well maybe. Their could be now an issue pass the radiator hose past the sender.... Oh well, at least I'm getting good at cleaning the filter housing. The size of the housing may be OK for another attempt but it's a bit thinner and curved. Will have to take apart and inspect the wall thickness for tapping after I get the Radiator in and try routing the cooling hose from the T-stat to the Radiator inlet.

The filter looks great, along with all of your hardware and work.

But that flow direction for the filter is very strange. Filters generally flow from out to in for 2 main reasons. One, filters are stronger with pressure trying to squeeze them in rather than pull them out. I suppose that is why they have a strong looking metal part wrapped around it. Also, out-to-in gives more filter area. Weird with a high performance unit like that they would do it the other way around.

Yep, I struggled with this as well. Every canister I have from canton plumb IN to the center of the element. Same for old instructions I found. Threw me for a loop when I called and asked and they said opposite of what everything else indicates. I should call again just to see.

From their marketing it's a "depth filter" and operation is different than a conventional style. The filter is a wound up roll of the element inside a thick steel cage. As I recall no steel support in the center of the element for support, but will have to look to be sure.

My guess if no steel in the center, pressure in is fed to the center otherwise the element would collapse on itself.
