Quite a few months back, I purchased this Tiger from Ca. It was partially completed, so I had a bit to do to get it on the road. Work on it progressed pretty well and I finally got it to the stage where I could drive it. Two problems then appeared, the clutch wouldnt release, and when it was put into 5th gear in the T5, it sounded like it was crushing rocks. There was no other choice than to remove the motor and gearbox. I had the pressure plate checked and they told me that it was not lifting clear of the clutch plate, even though it was new when installed, so that was replaced with a new one from an Aussie Ford Falcon GT. I dismantled the gearbox and found that the m/shaft 5th gear was rotating in the m/shaft spline. The gearbox was a 91 Mustang W/C and had been converted with a Chev tail and mainshaft to bring the shifter position to the correct place. The Chev mainshaft has 27 splines and they had refitted a Ford 28 spline gear onto it, and it was free to rotate around the shaft. I got a set of Chev 5th gears which I fitted. Fortunately no damage had been done to the mainshaft. I refitted the motor and gearbox, but still had problems getting the clutch to disengage. Fortunately I hadnt bolted the front suspension in, so pulled the motor and box back out. I checked the aluminium flywheel(also new) and found it had high and low spots in it. I got that refaced, refitted and with careful adjustment of the pull slave cylinder the clutch would free. I refitted the motor and gearbox, made sure it worked ok and refitted the front suspension. The car is now driveable, so it is off to the Certifier to have all the modifications that were made to the car checked and listed on an ID plate which has to be fixed to the bulkhead, then the car goes through a Warrent of Fitness mechanical check to make sure it is safe to use on the road, then it can be registered and used. The car currently has a 2.88 rear end in it and with 14" wheels is doing around 1900 rpm @ 60 mph, but I have a lower ratio LSD rear end to fit, as well as a hardtop, which requires refurbishment.
