This 1962 Sunbeam Alpine was reportedly delivered new in Germany before it was relocated to Virginia in mid-1962, and remained in long-term storage between 1973 and 2014. A refurbishment was conducted during 2014 that included a bare-metal repaint in red over new black vinyl upholstery and an overhaul of the 1,592cc inline-four, after which the car was acquired by the seller in 2020. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a black removable hardtop, a black soft top, chrome front and rear bumpers with overriders, front disc brakes, and 13″ steel wheels with bright hubcaps. Service in January 2022 included the replacement of the fluids and a carburetor adjustment. This Series II Alpine is now offered with an owner’s service booklet, a seller-provided timeline of the car’s history, a special tuning guide, a binder of refurbishment photos, a tonneau cover, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
During the 2014 refurbishment, the car was dismantled and stripped to bare metal before it was repainted in its factory shade of Carnival Red (39). Exterior features include chrome front and rear bumpers with overriders, polished stainless-steel windshield trim, a driver-side mirror, and a single polished stainless-steel exhaust outlet. Weather equipment includes a removable black soft top and tonneau cover as well as a refurbished removable black hardtop. A body-color fuel filler cap is installed on the car, and a stock-configuration filler cap and surrounding trim are pictured in the gallery. The rolling stand that the removable hardtop is photographed on is not included in the sale.
Silver-painted 13″ steel wheels with bright hubcaps are mounted with 175/70 Michelin Defender tires showing 2014 date codes. The suspension and braking systems were overhauled during the refurbishment. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.
The reupholstered interior features bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl with red piping which are accompanied by a matching dash, interior panels, and carpeting. Amenities include a heater, lap belts, a center console with storage, a Smiths analog dash clock, and a Motorola AM radio.
A banjo-style steering wheel with a horn ring fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an ammeter, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1,592cc inline-four was overhauled during the refurbishment and is equipped with dual downdraft Zenith carburetors. Service in January 2022 included replacement of the fluids and a carburetor adjustment.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the undercarriage are viewable in the gallery.
A special tuning guide, a promotional booklet, a seller-provided timeline of the car’s history, and an owner’s service book with entries dating back to September 1962 are included in the sale.
