Have trouble to adjust my contact breaker gap properly. It´s an original autolite distributor but the base plate can be somewhat shifted resulting in a changing gap. Anything wrong or any ideas ?

Bernd,

tighten the hold down screw so that it is difficult to adjust the gap but "not" impossible to adjust by using a small flat screw driver to move it out. If you move it out too far then loosen the screw and start again.

When I write move it out I mean to pry it out.....gently.

Sometimes it takes me five times before I get it close.

If you find the dizzy cannot be adjusted then off it goes to repair. I don't know of anyone over your way. Here in the states the guy many of us Mustang owners use is Tim O'Connor. He has a website.

Mike,

thanks for your description. Will try to follow as much as possible.

Found Tim O´Connors Homepage here:

If I can´t achieve a proiper adjustment perhaps better to get the dizzy rebuilt there. He looks professional...

distributor point gap

Provided that your distributor shaft bushings are not shot, Get rid of the points and ballast resistor period, and replace with a Pertronix I
or II. Then go with a Pertronix coil for hotter spark and never have to replace or adjust points !!.
