Dyno Days

The TE/AE Virginias Region is thinking about organizing a Dyno Day similar to the ones that CAT holds periodically. We do not yet have a shop arranged for the event as we are still in the "thinking out loud" phase.

We would like to take advantage of the experience of our Comrades from CAT and it would be helpful if anyone knowledgeable could answer a few questions.

How many cars can we reasonably expect to accomodate during a Dyno day event?
What services does the hosting shop provide to CAT Dyno Day participants during the event?
What is the cost to each member that participates?

Any other info/tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dyno Day

Got the following by E-mail from the guy who is our liason / organizer with Superior Automotive for CAT Dyno Days.

Hi there: Our dyno day costs $40 per car. Usually you get 2-3 pulls and some "minor" adjusting (i.e. full throttle, a bit of timing, carb adjustment). They will happily suggest more involved mods, and make them right then for a fee (minor $ usually), and then do another few pulls to make sure everything is OK. If you supply the disc, they will put your pulls on it for future reference.
When we first started this program we had up to 17 cars show up which took about 4 hrs to do. After running this a few more time we can count of 6-10 cars. It seems that once dynoed, most don't repeat regularly. We accept almost any car, or truck within reason to dyno. Check with your dyno guy and see what he will limit it to.
Donuts, and coffee are a must, as well as publicizing the event well in advance. We usually have a small pop up tent and a few chairs, but most of the guys hang around the dyno to watch (sometimes getting in the way). We also chart the pulls, and put them into the Tiger Tales (bragging rights I guess).
It is a must to find a good dyno that understands that more business then just the $40 can come of their participation. We have had guys do motors, heads, carbs, etc, because of the dyno days, so there is a possibility of some business from the Tiger guys.
