Been down this road a few times: I either thread the end for a nyloc nut or drill a hole thru it for a clevis or cotter pin. Drilling the hole is accomplished with the aid of a hardwood block. A 1/4" hole in the hardwood accepts the end to keep it stable , then (with some measuring) you can drill thru the block at 90 degrees thru the end of the rod. The wood keeps the drill from wandering off the curve. Leave room for a washer. just sayin'
