Have we ever taken a poll - close ratio vs. wide ratio?

FWIW, I drove mine with a close ratio for many years, even four years in San Francisco hills.

The conventional wisdom was usually in favor of the wide. I even bought all the parts to swap in the wide ratios.

Then, each time I'd drive someone else's car with a wide ratio trans, I'd say to myself, "Damn those close ratios are just so much sweeter running up through the gears."

Finally, sold the parts.

Snick Snick through the gears of the close ratio. Would never give it up.

Nice the price is going up but even that is second to "driving" the sports car.

Wider ratio 1st. was just too tall for me in old MK1A

100% wide ratio for me

While this thread is exclusively about gearbox it will do better in GTD, unless guys always click New Posts and reply. Gearbox will have light posts so maybe a redirect there and a shift of thread to GTD let's hang on see how many bite, I mean respond.

New post will always show what's new since your last visit with exception of marketplace which has lag time.

With my 13" wheels and 205/60 tires, my 2.88 gear set is more like 3.10...I don't have any trouble getting off the line, and love the close ratio gears from there on out. Never considered swapping!
