How can we avoid LA?

We're planning to leave Fallbrook (north San Diego County) ~ 0400 en route to TU. Please advise re' fwys to use so as to avoid as much of LA traffic as possible. Departure day = Mon or Tues. Thnx -- Turtle & Hobbes

Just time the trip. Hit LA between 10:30 and 1:00 on a weekday. No real problems unless theres an accident If you are two in the car
use the 405 rather than the 5. 405 has car pool lanes most of the way. It merges back to the 5 in Sylmar.

Avoid LA

I agree with the advice on timing. You might also try this:
Come up 5, then go north on 605 to 210. Go west on 210 which will take you to 5 at the start of "Grape Vine". Only slow down might come for a short bit through Pasadena, but you avoid all the west side and LAX traffic.
