Lee Brown, Ken Miles, and the Shop on Cahuenga

Last month's CAT meeting featured special guest Lee Brown, the body shop owner who helped Ken Miles move his tools and provided him with space to continue working at Lee's Hollywood shop on Cahuenga. (Ken moved three times between 1962-63.) I thought it was time to take Lord Rootes to where I've been told was the shop that Ken Miles and crew installed that first V8 in an Alpine. (I can't guarantee this because I was only 3 and 1/2 years old at the time.) According to reports, that first ride happened on a rainy night heading down the Hollywood freeway. That particular onramp is long and twisty by LA standards. All of this happened in April of 1963, 60 years ago! Steven Alcala

P.S. If anyone has a better recollection of this story, I'd appreciate it.

Steve! So great to see the Lord Rootes trophy photographed at one of the birthplaces of the Tiger! That is indeed the shop where Miles squeezed the V8 into the Alpine. As Lee Brown told me once, that 101 Freeway southbound on ramp was their "poor man's dynamometer" for quite a few projects!
