My MKII DID NOT HAVE A SPEEDOMETER CABLE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. CAN SOMEONE PROVIDE A PHOTO OF THE CONNECTION AT THE TRANSMISSION?

Here is a photo I used in a Tiger Tales article about replacing my speedo cable in my Mk II. I had a hard time getting a good photo of the speedo cable to tranny connection. The cable itself is just above the reverse lights switch and you can see the retaining bracket (which holds the cable housing) and the bolt (which holds the retaining bracket to the tranny housing).

If I remember correctly, this photo was taken with the plate removed from the left side of the tranny hump. But it was over 10 years ago when I took this picture. Good luck with your car!

You can use the speedo cable from the Mk1/Mk1. in your Mk2. They are completely interchangeable. The Mk2 cable is a 2 part affair and the Mk1/MK1a is one part. The speedo gear will not know the difference. I have an earlier cable on my Mk2 (#463) and have installed them on every Mk2 that has left my shop. They work just fine.

When my MKII cable seized/snapped, I tried to find a NOS replacement. No joy. Ended up using a Mustang 1 piece cable. Worked good enough though I did have to nip a piece of cable to shorten it a fraction. I also got a MKII replacement from Richfield though it seems to long for a LHD.
