I had our machinist weld & recut a couple once. My foggy memory seems to think that one of our suppliers has them made also.

I was thinking about the recut smaller threads approach and 'guess' that would work but assuming it would be easier to just fine a replacement (hoping anyway).

Any good machine shop can add weld and cut that 7/8" thread. It's a pretty basic job.
