Are the tail light bodies for the inside screw and outside screw lenses the same? If they are different, what is the difference? Thanks for any help.

The difference is the inside screw the lamps mount in plug in sockets from behind.

The outside screw the lenses come off and the socket is part of the base and you just put the globe in

also the holes in the inside screw base are larger than the outside screw bases making it not possible to install outside screw lenses onto an early base.

early inside screw bases are Lucas L654, later outside screw are Lucas. L763. Compare the top lens screw holes on the 2 units pictured. inside screw base mounting holes are quite a bit larger, outside screw bases are threaded for a #6-32 TPI machine screw. You can modify an early base by installing #6-32 riv-nuts..
