What are the chances of getting 2 TACed cars with such a similar number?
I had the 821 car TACed and the 82 car is a recent find.
82 is the black MK1 hard top in fair condition with little rust and pics below. SVO 302 Alloy heads, club jet hot coated headers flowmasters. Dale early converted MG rack Koni's on 4 corners 3.07 track lock wide ratio conversion new drive shaft early Dale A Fiat X-19 rear disks and stock fronts with Wilwood single master, and alloy radiator. OG rivets an 1 code car. Traction masters staggered 15" wheels with Pirelli tires. Pretty much 1999 state of Tiger mod car and pretty much what I had planned for 821, but its got a 10' paint job and the seller sold off as it was in garage just getting damaged as he fell off ladder and bashed hood n fender. Note to self and others, GO BUY IT AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. I was 1st to call on a Sunday afternoon seller was a real straight shooter and said I had first crack at it. I asked for pics of the bad areas and said I want to see it up on stands. He agreed to a 7AM Monday and I asked to get the car up as I said, "I believe you 100% and if the small under carriage issues all old cars have that's my only concern. He removed the 4 wheels and put it on stands.
Here is the good part buyer 2 begs and grovels a late Sunday night showing and says I'd buy it if I could drive it. Seller says "I'm not putting wheels back on and off for a 7AM showing for a guy driving 1.5 hours tomorrow," Back story is I had also told seller no one has that kind of dough as walking around cash and if they do it's funny money! and what are the first 2 rules of car buying, well 1 is never buy a car at night.
That night I could barely sleep and google stalked the car vin and the owner! I joked with him show your children all the posts you forgot about, funny guy! My buddy and partner in AC air filters helped me out by calling Norm at the same time but I already knew he knew the car as his name was on the TAC cert. THANKS NORM AND BRUCE. Being there when called upon is fantastic! I gave a deposit of $500 at 800 next AM.
821 MK1a is the blue car that has been my club car 1st Tiger. I have been compiling 2.72 rear end posi spare trans with Gary's suggested wide ratio conversion and a early Dale A and torque arm . modified rack and a 30 over 5 bolt 289. I had gone thru all brakes steering rack cooling system radiator and heater core but she still leaks with a main seal like a English car. She has a period correct date code 260 with 289 heads that runs nice. I'm wondering what to do with 2.
I thinking Mothball 821 and do her freshening after I get my 64 Bug conv, 65 Ranchero and the Mrs. 64 Falcon Conv back to road worthy. Too many project too little time. I did not think I would be the kind of guy who buys done cars but both cars are rough around the edges like the current caretaker.
Oh the first thing I did was remove the Lost in Space Robot arm cold air induction, but I wish I had done something about the loose headlight ring, it's on the 405, heavy sigh....
