Almost a new Tiger owner

I have run across a Sunbeam Tiger a friend has and he wants to get rid of it. It is completely disassembled except for the running gear...for the past 15 years. It was painted but never put back together...15 years of sitting with stuff piled on it has taken its toll...it needs paint...not sure about body work. Everything needs to be refurbished...and I think everything is there. It's a Mark I 260.

What's the going price range for a complete (disassembled) car that needs a total restoration? High and low? There is a lot of work that needs to be done to get it looking and running good.

I've restored a half dozen cars over the past 10 years and I recently completed building a Factory 5 Racing Daytona Coupe so I'm sure I can handle the work but I have no idea what this car might be worth in it's current state.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. I hope to get this car and become a regular poster here.

My response not helpful

In any way other than to wish you luck and to share similar situ

Although I'm working on his tiger, dad had project creep into a 68 mustang that sits in similar condition to your prospect. Totally taken apart, new paint, new carpets interior pieces wheels tires overhauled 289 etc. Circa 1990...

So I'd be curious the opinions heard here and could use those to justify or purge this build

Comps

I bought my current Tiger, B9471705, much in the condition you describe the one you're looking at, about 4 years ago for $14,000. The restoration and assembly added a considerable sum to that...

What Tiger parts are missing and what is the status of the vin tag and registration. Next what condition is the body in relation to rust and wrecks. After you brief us better you can get some values. A real tiger with most parts now starts at 15k and goes up from there. Color matters and I see it is missing the wood steering wheel. 12K-15 is probably a steal for you and 25 is a win for the seller. I think you can get an correct reproduction air cleaner now if that is missing. Lee

I don't think any Tiger parts are missing. The carburetor is missing but I don't know if that is specific to the Tiger.

I believe the car has been in California since 1970 and I did not see an abnormal amount of rust but to be honest it was dark in the garage and I was not able to get underneath to do a thorough inspection. The engine compartment looked okay. I'll ask about any accidents.

I think I saw a second steering wheel in one of the boxes.

I'm going to try and see the car again next week and I'll check the tag and registration.

Any other things I should look for would be appreciated.

More Info Needed

With a bit more #'s info and views of the belly/rockers/floors, we could chime in with more accuracy. We restore the toys both professionally and as a hobby, so the cost expectations (less your own labors) can be honed to suit your end game intentions. Driver/concourse/rent-a-wreck/etc.

I visited the car again this afternoon. He wants $15,000.

I looked for a chassis tag but couldn't find it. Where is that hidden?

I did get the tag off the engine. The engine # is 6342-B19KC, the model number is C4PZ-6001-CF and the S.O. Number is SO-2632.

I didn't see any chassis rust. There is some on the floor pan but it's solid. I have attached a couple more photos.

I'm going to pass on this. I wish I could get it but it's a little more than I wanted to pay and I really don't have room for it.

If anyone is interested in the car, PM me and I'll send you the owners email. He's had a stroke and his speech is impacted so email is the best way to communicate. The car is located in Los Altos, Ca. I think it has been a California car for most of it's life.

There will be an aluminium rectangular tag on the front scuttle that the bonnet closes over held by 2 riverts that will have some numbers stamped.. Either B947.... LRX FE or LRO/HRO/RRO or B382.... There will also be a small metal tag retained by 2 screw's parallel to the scuttle that will have JAL and some numbers.

Hidden S/N

There appear to be hood pin plates in the photos. The RH plate could be covering the S/N tag, but, the JAL tag should be in the clear and obvious.
Would suggest gathering the rear casting 7 tranny #'s and run the available info past Rootes One.

Is that supposed to be there?

Looking at the engine compartment image, I noticed a horizontal bracket between the right wheel tub and the firewall. It appears to have two pressed holes in it. Is that supposed to be there? My car certainly doesn't have one of those...
Cheers, -Kevin

Brake servo mount for the 7" Girling.

Bergie, you have Private message on here

I'm local, could offer some valuable opinions (hard to quantify that) and/or local guru help.

I also would consider myself an interested party, if I can't sway you to return to consider the car for yourself.

Acquired in semi-partnership

Some challenges, like all cars, some potentially big. But none that can't be overcome.

'66...

Entirely apart. Many many parts including HT.

In good, knowledgeable hands. Will reemerge.
