I have owned this Tiger for over 24 years, I first saw it at the Auburn auction in 1997. I was outbid on the car by the Imperial Palace Collection of Biloxi, Mississippi. I purchased it in March of 2000, as they were clearing inventory for refreshing. I learned of Norm Miller through someone at Sunbeam Specialties. I spoke by phone, with Norm Miller and he assured me that the Tiger was B9470001.
He knew Donnie Goold, the restorer and asked me how he had done on the restoration. I gave Norm my contact information and he updated his Tiger registry showing B9470001 was in Racine, Wisconsin in May of 2000; It resides here to this day. I have not modified it, except for the addition of a restored factory hard top. There is no evidence of prior body damage or modifications for racing. This Tiger was found in Long Island by Donnie Goold in the mid-1990's. It has the original engine, transmission, scuttle number and rear end. The serial tag was missing, Donnie Goold learned of Norm Miller and contacted him. Goold furnished before restoration photos and tracings of tags to Norm Miller. The original foil tag on the original valve cover carries engine number 1068, the scuttle tag JAL550058 was and is still attachted with the original screws. The rear end number is F64 83. Goold found the original color under the dashboard. It was forest green, color number 86 with Norm Miller's input he prepared a new serial tag. I have provided photographs of all of these tags to Billy Martin, keeper of Norm Miller's records.
On November 10th 2023, site member HRS121E posted a picture of my scuttle on this site claiming it was from car B9470061. This photo was furnished by the restorer Goold to Norm Miller in the mid-1990's. Then on November 11th 2023, HRS121E posted that JAL550058 is "exclusively that of B9470061". This soon was disproved on November 13th 2023 when it was learned that B9470061 was Tac'd with JAL550051 scuttle number in 1994.
B9470001 was first attributed to a white Sunbeam racecar carrying race number 45b. This vehicle was subsequently wrecked and then authorized to be dismantled. In a letter from British American Imports of Long Island dated January 22, 1965 to Mr. HJ Meyer of Sports Car Forum Colombus, OH. In this letter, Meyer is authorized to part out the car and destory the chassis. The letter was signed by JT Giaimo, Secretary Treasurer of British American Imports.
B9470001 is then attributed to a yellow Sunbeam racecar carrying race number 74, its fate is unknown to me.
It is my OPINION, the only thing raced about B9470001 was the serial number.
