The front valance flexes backward when pushing on the plate, will be making a couple of braces to reinforce the valance.

License Plate

I did the same with what I thought was a clever plate--lost on this generation--they know Disneyland but not the old tickets, wow, getting old (er).

It is a great product having raised pressed letters/numbers and border in aluminum. The paint used is also a rubberized/vinyl.

It should stand up to the harsh environment of life inches above the road being pushed by 450 HP.

Dont think a local sign shop could produce the same thing.

I got to ask.. is it legal to use those inthe USA? Obviously its not the cars registration number.. is it for display only or will you be driving with it normaly?

We are limited to 6 digits here.. I have 2 plates which i bought but have not run on the cars

TIGR V8 and MKIA 66 the second one works for Mark 1A or Michael King's 1A :)

michael,
every state has their own laws concerning license plates. many states only have one licanse plate mounted on the rear that leaves the front open for something else. here in ohio we use two license plates. if we want we can get new plates every year or retain the old plates with a different number. when you trade for a new car you transfer the plates. my suv has plates that have been on five different vehicles. you can also order vanity plates with whatever series of numbers and letters you want. i don't remember how many characters you can have but a good example is our neighbor behind us. their vettes have plates reading vette 1,2 and 3. they also have vanity plates on their lincoln, lincoln pickup and the plate on their chevy SSR is SSR. my 69 gt has actual 1969 plates that were on the series 4 in 1969. they don't expire until 2056. you could order plates with what you are showing if you lived here in ohio. the plates would be in the color specified by the state. i'm not sure about other states.

It is in Kansas as we do not have a front plate issued. Other states that have front plates would not allow it.

Figured that would be the case.. nice that you dont have t run a front plate! Did you do "1966" vs "66" to make it a wider spliter?

i had a plate made here with "SUNBEAM" thats the same size as a stock plate, but of course cant use it as its 7 letters and not a legal issued plate, even though its made on the same presses.

The plate was a set width. I liked the 1966 vs 66. BTW, my rear Kansas plate is "66 TIGER". It is a personalized antique plate. People still look right at it and ask what year the car is

Way back in the being of the year I bought vintage plates and went thru the
Ca Year of manufacture program. At the time I also placed an order for replica plates thru create a plate a site similiar to the one Duke just used. To make a long story short the Attorney General here in Ca has now shut down any
company making plates for Ca and is also going after the people who sell
old plates. So the YOM as we now know it will soon be a thing of the past
to be replaced with this program

The reason is that Ca is switching to all flat plates and will get into the flat
plate replica business......oh well if you haven't done the YOM the door is closing rapidly

Other than grabbing revenue and justifying their positions, how is this bureaucracy benefitting the public ??

The link does not work--goes to email log in. I have heard rumors of the YOM plate program leaving us, I have used it many times and like it. As far as companies sending plates to Calif, I have had them shipped to relatives in other states and just told the people that I am a collector and want a certain Calif plate number---works. ;)

Randy....

Let's run thru the numbers and then you can get the picture.....

#1 A good useable set of plates that are not registered sell anywhere from
$350-$500 and it just depends on the condition. In CA to qualify for DOM you must have both front and rear plates that are useable in the eyes of the DMV.
#2 Registration stamps must be as per the year of the plates....65 has one stamp on the right side & 66 would have that and a 66 registration tag on the left side. These must also be unregistered and will cost between $100-$150 each.
#3 Must folks have replica plates made at $350/set so that they can attach
the current tags to those and use those for everyday driving and save the original plates for show time.

So let's do the math....all of the above will set you back around $1150
and the DMV charges $45 to process the paper work. Now it don't take a genius to figure out that if they shut down the business and put a monopoly in it's place thay can get most of that $1100 for themselves.....

THe link still works for me but here is the whole deal :

California Bill to Create Legacy License Plate Program
Signed Into Law

Governor Jerry Brown signed into law legislation (A.B. 1658) to establish the California Legacy License Plate Program. Under the new law, the DMV will create and issue a series of specialized license plates that replicate plates from the state's past. Previously, classic car owners could only revive well-maintained old plates that match the vintage of their vehicle. Among other things, the new law will bring a retro look to modern license plates by allowing consumers to choose from one of three classic designs from the 1950s-1960s (black lettering on yellow background or yellow lettering on black background) and 1970s-1980s (yellow lettering on blue background). The law requires that at least 7,500 applications for any one particular plate must be received by the DMV on or before January 1, 2015.

Thank you and congratulations to all who participated in supporting the bill.

Now as far as having CA plates shipped to another state that will no longer work because the AG here has made it legally impossible for a repro maker to create a CA plate. If you go to Dukes vendor you will see that CA is NOT one of the states that they can make replica plates. Now the new state manufactured Retro look plates will not look anything like the 65-66 black plates..these new plates will be flat with no raised letters on aluminum
and will look just like Jerry Brown imagined the old plates he had on his Kcar
back when he was governor the last time looked like. How do you spell JUNK

Vic Plates

Here are my plates..

Down here they pin you a fair swag for the personal plates.. but the real value is in the early plates (tranferabale as with all plates here0 they are from the original issue .. any single digit will be $1mill + and 2 digit 250K+ the 3 digit are 100K+ and 4 are in the mid $50K's
. back in 1997 i wanted to buy a 2 digit plate but my father made sure i didnt.. "you are not wasting $6.5K on a number plate you are not going to use!" that plate would have been a decent house deposit by now!

Well that just re-enforces my lifelong belief that allowing bureaucracy is the hard proof of man's love of self abuse . . . . .

Extra 40 bones, Thanks for the heads up.

Per year with their program. Wonder how they plan to make the black reflective add CA DMV@GOV.COM on the plate as well.

How many guys already have and pay for a ELP in six letters and then paint it the old style color. Seen lots of 7 numbered repainted plates in black on cycles and cars. Will they also enforce the rules for altering lic. plates?
I want Bond 007 rotating plate.

I have a perfect blue mint in wrapper 1967 sticker for a MK2 or whatever 67 someone has.

A good boycott on every forum would be a shot at killing the bill which requires 7500 participants in the first year 2015

Most plates I have seen have ben in the under 300 range but I bet that they will skyrocket before the end of YOM.

YOM is a service to DMV pretty soon a car plate will has and be as hard to read as a modern 7 digit motorcycle plate and 8 digits are coming to your hood soon cause they are running out of numbers.

When you ask the lame employees questions about the Antique Vehicles or Historic white plates the act like you are speaking Greek and are puzzled. I mean really how much can it cost to get those convicts to work making lic. plates?

Sorry for the rant, but it is amazing what they pass, or cram down our throats when we who are effected aren't looking or are not in control of legislature or the Supreme court.
