Heater control valve

I have a question. Is this a stock Tiger item? Mine has started to leak, the metal "sleeve" that the hose attaches to (above the valve cover in pic) has come loose and is leaking. I heard there was a replacement, Honda maybe?? I was going to just add a 90 degree elbow in for now and bypass the valve but the hoses are different sizes. Externally they are 3/4" and 7/8". Any help would be appreciated as I am entered into the International Auto Show in Sacramento in about 10 days. Thank you.

That is the late style heater valve as used on the SV Alpine and MKIA/II Tiger. I used to hear about the honda valve.. but that was when there was no other option. About 5 years back Moss and a few others started to stock the repros of the late MGC valve which is visually the same as ours. i believe there is a small mod needed to make it fit up.. but easily done.

Here is a pic of the later one which seems related you yours. This is from that big red book.

I have seen the earlier ones like you have and a repop stainless steel bracket on eBay.

I have a couple of spares of the late bracket and the awful looking Honda one floating around in a box. The part number for the Honda one is in the old tiger e mail archives

I think you need to go to the hardware section of the Walmart and find a nice gate valve or ball valve then you know it'll never break again.

Jim--that looks like mine with the separate sleeve. I ended up buying part #90elbow at the hardware store so I can at least drive the car for now.. I'll get the right one soon and get it back to normal, thanks for the leads.

Heater Valve

Here's what I use on both my Tigers. The purists will not like it, but both cars are personalized anyway. Go to Pep Boys and get a heater valve for an early 70's Ford Pickup. You will need to make a small adapter block for the wire control, and the "hot" and "cold" are reversed, but in 30 years I have never had leakage or had to replace...

Yup; stuck one of those on old #78 46 years ago when nobody cared about original pieces. We still have it and it Does Not Leak . . . . .:D

All the cars in Walmart parking lot are personalized too.:D
I hink the best I've seem is the hiding next to the heater core..
But that requires a little work on the dash control arm. I'd of done that but I can't stand on my head under dash that long.
 
I hear you.....30 years ago I could lay on my back all day long under the Tiger dash, not so much anymore.:(

I bought one of these a few years ago and the insert that the hose to the block hooks to, turned when I was putting the hose on.

It was epoxied in and the epoxy was still tacky.

Of course by then, the cable was attached, the valve was attached to the mounting brkt. and the mounting brkt. was set in place.

i'll be re-epoxying it with a high temp marine epoxy.

J-B recommended their Original J-B weld. Roughened the surfaces and keyed it in.

Here's my contribution. My Tiger is a modified so I am not worried about stock. One of the goals was to clean up the engine compartment which, with the stock Tiger is very cluttered. The stock heater control valve sticks out, so how to hide it or minimize it? At first we wanted to go with an electronic one, but that became to complex and bulky. We settled on a simple valve which connects to the stock cable and is small and fits in the space between the carb and valve cover. Pull it for heat and push for cool. Cliff

Is that the Honda valve? A part number or a make and model year for the valve would be great

MOSS has been reinventing that poor valve for a year now. It keeps failing testing as they modify it. I simply remove the offending sleeve, tap the hole and screw in a hose barb. There's just enough meat in the casting accomplish the deed with a bit of patience.
 
The mechanic working on the Tiger during it's restoration got the valve. I'll see if I can find out what it is. I don't think he got it from Moss. Probably a universal valve. Cliff
 
Hmmm, then what am I looking at? Doesn't that valve show the word "ON" there at that peg? Looks like a push to ON.
I know it looks like the one I have and it's a push to ON.
This is in the off position.
Just sayin'

Vintage air has these valves, and carried by Summit, Jegs, etc. 46105-vuh is pull to open and 46104-vuh is pull to close. When I move my control rod from cold to hot it pulls the cable so I must have the pull to open valve. Works great but had to readjust the cable because of it's new location from stock.
