Holy Cat Batman! Mk2

So after 3 pages, who is going to stump up for this very neglected MK2, not this brown duck. My rust free very damaged MK1 may be at the body shop before Xmas. Still gonna cost north of 70K
:D

At auction by RM at Amelia in March.
Be nice to see pictures of the shell after a acid bath or any restoration shots.

Would be interesting to see how they did the body.
The lower front valence profile looks quite flat in some photos.

Also interesting how the wide whotewalls look ok on the early cars but certainly don't suit the later ones, particularly a mkii with the lower stripe decals.

Rescued

It did sure look wounded in the beginning, BUT, we've dragged worse examples back from the dead. Just sayin'

Mkii 504

First picture sold 2013 on bebay
Picture as January 2019

Why is it when I look at the 'restored' pics the first thing that comes to mind is 'The Great Gatsby' ??:O

So, it appears this car is (B382100504) making another appearance next month at Mecum;

Comments in the FB Sunbeam Tiger group suggest this is a known rebody that was sold at Amelia during Covid. Any comments in the registry? Opinions, please?
There are hidden diffs that clone builders seem to miss every time. I have examined several beautiful Tigers that weren't. Just sayin'

So Randy, someone brings you their 'Tiger' and you discover it's not...now what?

So if I read correctly it sold for $95K in 2019. Soft market for Tigers six years later? There's a nice Mk II that's been on eBay for some time now that can't get seem to get above $98K

It's not my urge to say anything. I work on them and they drive off. On occasion, someone will ask the direct question. My simple direct answer usually is "I am not a TAC official, nor do I want to be one. There are cars I am confident about, and others I am not". Just sayin'

Thanks for your reply. Very pragmatic answer to a dogmatic question. Whatever that means LOL! I was just curious. Thanks.

PS: There are a couple of excellent MK II "clones" that I know of that others are convinced are real. They are not. Just sayin'

My Mk2 project (463) was seriously rusty coming out of Ontario Canada. I bought it from Ron Stein, He brought it out to B.C because we couldn't find anyone to transport it. His wife told me that I had lost my mind... Where there's a will, there's a way. The car was wrecked in 1971 and stuffed into a garage until I bought it....

As for the comments about converting a Mk1a or a series 5 Alpine into a Mk2.... NO, It wouldn't be easy! The single hardest thing would be the rear deck in the interior as there is no battery hatch in a Mk2 Tiger shell. I suppose, if you had access to a real Mk2 you could carefully remove this part and install it in a different shell, but it'd be a massive undertaking. The part is also shared with later Hillman Huskys, but they are on thin ground...

There are myriad other differences with the Mk2 shells as opposed to the MK1a and series 5 Alpine, but I won't elaborate as I do not want to encourage attempts at forgery!!

I finished the resto several years ago, and the car sailed through it's TAC inspection... It certainly was not easy, nor was it cheap. The attached image shows what a Mk2 rear deck should look like... The second pic shows the chassis tag. I wouldn't have bought the car in the 1st place without this... You will note, the rivets are original. The car was still (largely) in it's original polar white paint.
