Hi guys,
I am new to the forum and new to owning a Tiger. I have very nice MK1a, all original and certified car in forest green. I recently moved to California (lower Sierras, between Sacto and Lake Tahoe) and looking for a good, capable mechanic to take care of my Tiger. My speedo, gas gauge and temp gauge won't work. Also the tach is too slow.
Can I get some good leads?
Thanks,
Jurgen

First, welcome to our little corner of the classic sports car world!:)

As far as the gas and temp gauges not working, it is highly probable that the instrument constant voltage regulator went bad, it serves both gauges. You can get a replacement from Sunbeam Specialties for $37.50, plus postage, according to their catalogue.

It is bolted to one of the center braces under the dash. If you are so inclined and able, you could have a go at getting under the dash and just replacing it yourself. At my now somewhat advanced years getting under the dash is still not a problem, its the getting back out that is sometimes a challenge.:)

The stock tach has an adjustment screw which is fairly easy to access if you disassemble the case and drill a hole in the back of the can. Some tech tips on that are available if is that is something you would want to tackle on your own.

Anyway, again welcome, and I hope you will enjoy your Tiger as much as we do ours!

NorCal welcome

Jurgen, hello

A couple more comments. The good news is that there are MANY many resources within NorCal for advice, parts and repair.

First, I recommend spending hours and hours reading through the previous posts on this site. Here you'll find so much information it will be overwhelming.

Second, as you are lucky enough to have a running example, consider a trip to a CAT (California Assoc of Tigers Owners) and/or STOA (Sunbeam Tiger Owners Assoc) event, SAAC NorCal (Shelby Club) event.

Our car is currently very close to you proximity wise, but in a totally different situation condition wise (100% gutted and undergoing resto).

I happen to need to make a trip back out there in the next couple of weeks, for the next round of towing and would love to make an excuse for a local meet / slash see the car / try replacing that voltage regulator (I've been under the dash a lot recently and feel pretty confident we could give it a go).

Some local resources:
http://www.sunbeamtiger.org
STOA are active and local to NorCal. I've been unable to catch more than a Board meeting, but will try more in the future.

http://www.norcal-saac.org/
NorCal Shelby Club. They'll have some ideas and there are more of them around. Visit an event or one of the shops on their list.

Sunbeam Specialties have a great catalog and are in Campbell (San Jose). I am <1m away and could pick up parts too, if we arranged above meet.

There are plenty of local mechanic resources, from the very best specialty restoration shops (Rootes Group Depot, Santa Clara), to daily driver and racing Mustang experts (G & R Performance, Redwood City). I am certain there are knowledgeable houses very near to you in Sacramento. I'd personally check in with a Mustang (vintage) shop for normal motor stuff and expand the drive for more detailed Tiger stuff.

There are a few members close to you that may add in more local detail later, or they may wait a bit to 'get to know you' better.

At any rate, welcome from another fellow catmbr forum 'newbie,' but one who's had the car itself as long as any... (Dad's since new '66).
