Hi CAT members.
Thanks for the welcome to Rick!
My story. My first car was an Alpine, pre-series V, back in 1975. Was a cool carnival red, but had a mishap with a eucalyptus tree in 1977 and that was it. Recall many good times pushing the car or walking walking away from it due to the Lucas electronics.
Enter 2013. Looking at retirement in 10 years. Kid goes to college, and I need a sports car. Can't let go of $30-40K for a nice Tiger, but find an excellent restored Alpine. Having lots of fun and enjoying the various forums, and B9471776 is looking for a new owner in Indiana. Registered at CAT in late 90's, and the offer is accepted. I'm in deep!
So, transporter delivers the car-but it no longer runs. Reason, fire under the hood during transport. Still dealing with carrier insurance, what a cluster Fun! Dale A. evaluates the damage and gives thumbs up to the car. Purchase a junk 67 alpine for pretty parts and the fine detailing begins.
So far, 302 Jasper roller/rocker engine, T-5 transmission. Re-covering original seats. Repairing transport damage. 15 inch wheels. Looking for lots of soft parts and to meeting the CAT folks. Will utilize the parts catalog and Sunbeam Specialties. Encinitas CA is "Surfin' Safari" and lots of folks recognize the model (can't drive the Alpine in town without comments, and can't wait for the Tiger to fire up). Looking for a good upholstery person to do the seats in tan vinyl. Needs a good shakedown and tune-up, and chrome parts! Candy apple red with white racing stripe and ghost flames custom paint, a head turner. I'll be reaching out to you all for advise! Looking forward to coffee in Irvine 2014.
Wish me luck,
Kevin Sharp
