An acquaintance from NH Motor Speedway asked if he and a "buddy" could look at ole #78 and take some pictures etc. etc. They showed up and I met the "buddy" who wore clothes without labels and stood somewhat aloof. He then spent an hour or better crawling around & thru, taking measurements & photos before walking off and chatting on a phone for a while. He then handed me an envelope with a phone # and a cash offer. We have no intention of parting with a family member. The gentleman then asked me to consider how high an offer was required and if we would notify him when the Bail Bonds Cobra would test on the track. People with those cold black eyes bother me . . . . we ain't selling family.

I have a NJ friend that had his Tiger up in Lyme Rock, CT that had the same thing happen "how much for a car not for sale". He gave the guy a price that he thought was way over value and the guy said OK. So off it went. Luckily he found another Tiger.

Check please!

I was at a car show about 3 years ago when a guy comes up to me and starts asking questions about my Tiger...basically, wants to write me a check right on the spot. I politely repeated to him that my car was not for sale, so I didn't even want to know what it was worth to him. We had a nice chat, I answered his questions, and he went off to look at other cars at the show. Several people overheard our conversation, and all of them said this guy had the means to write me a check if he was interested in a car- he has a bunch of cars- and they all seemed to know him or know of him.

Fast forward to the British car show at Channel Islands this year, and, lo and behold, here's Alan Rich (that's his name, really). We start talking, and I ask him if he ever found a Tiger. He had; then he recognizes me and says, "You're the guy I was going to write a check for $100K at that car show a few years back!" Would I have sold it to him for that price? I'm glad I didn't know the money he was talking about back then...everybody has their price!!
