Windshields?

If anyone knows a MK-2 owner in the Tampa area named Nick Kinter, you know that he is quite knowledgable on Sunbeams. He "volunteered" to help me replace the windshield & the job went smoothly. Not a job I want to do ever again though.

In California, I guess it is common to see multiple MK-2's together, but not that common in Florida. The beautiful Carnival Red car is Nick's, while the dark red one belongs to a man named Bob Harper. Nick's Vin # is just three cars before mine.

How is everyone getting that nasty wax off of the rubber. I have tried several methods, all work, but none very well or efficient.

With 60 you get Egg Roll

Okay, I have a warped sense of humor, :D

When I was visiting the fella who makes the glass for the hard tops I inquired about windshields and toured his small facility.

Lee is too small for a production run with a price that could compete with S.S. or V.B. But he suggested that they are buying from Taiwan and the cost would be aprox. $100 bucks per screen with a min. order of 60

warren,
if sunbeams were being built today the odds are Chrysler would build them in china. low cost labor, no benefits, etc. go to your local new car dealer and look thru the back room of the parts department. see if you find much that is not made in either china or japan. we buy containers of a well known automotive filter and they come from korea. the quality of the windshields is good.

Sir

Fiat, I mean Chrysler or w/e is not my topic or comment. Where a Sunbeam would be built today has no bearing on me reporting a simple fact. Never mind that a Sunbeam today would never pass any N.H.T.S.A or F.M.V.S.S . They still make Honda 90's which is their family truckster of choice.

As I understand it the club used to sell screens. Even if they were pick up only and the minimum order was 30, it would be too big of an ask of our volunteer parts guys. It would be a good thing to have on hand locally for the huge number of So. Cal. Alpines and Tigers. BUT the min order is just way TOO LARGE

Do not take my silly humor as a criticism on the quality of any product, Most of my V.W time was spent chasing German parts or the best made substitutes, as N.L.A. took on the meaning of you are S.O.L.

I was saying no more than we "The Club." would have to buy 60 store them and wait till they got bought. I am also merely reporting my findings. I was not charged with the duty of finding a local producer for the club either. Lee is a Tiger owner and fellow car guy, he provided our locally made hard top glass windows. He cannot compete with V.B. S.S. or ones made in B.F.E. I have no CAT in the fight or axe to grind.
I need to replace my screen sooner or later, and want to help the club period.

it would be interesting to know how many VB has in stock and how many they have to order. they could be left overs from years ago considering they sell them every day for 129.00. I didn't notice any tags on the ones that I bought that tell where they were made. I agree having them in stock would not be good for the club. they could delaminate just setting on a shelf.

I have 2 sitting in the roof of my shed, both came off used sunbeams, One was replaced because a stone chip was in the drivers view, over here, that cant be repaired and was replaced. It now has a repair and both show no sign of any delaminating. One was even stored in the weather for 10 years or so.

windscreen sealing putty

no responses to request for current mastic use, so I'm reporting an interesting link found.

These guys have the right idea and the wrapping of the screw mimics what I found on the corner posts of the frame.

So, I'll probably go with this in combination with the rubber. Still yet to try more basic search at a Home Depot. Gawdforbid I actually physically looked for something and not via google...*

*Frankly, I have been. In interesting places, more interesting ideas. I'll report those at a later date.

another thing to watch on the new glass is the thickness... many of the new ones are not as thick as the originals. We had some made down under to the original spec about 2 years back, much better fit.

Michael,

Do you know of any still available or any other supplier over there as one of the guys over here broke one recently and can't find one locally.

Cheers Mal.

Mal,

yes i know of a few suppliers and a few guys with spares.. do they need for a S3-V/Tiger.. or early Alpine?
