Paint codes

It's all about the rods and cones in your eyeballs. Find and early high dollar correct E type. I've only had a resprayed 86 car but had a couple of heater core / hood latch tray's :)

I also have the original latch plate with the code 86 paint that was applied by Pressed Steel sometime during Christmas week of 1964. I think the hood with the factory paint is somewhere in one of my garages.

Shots of the sane factory 86 mki ... Different light makes a big difference.

Same goes for 39 canrival red.. Red in some light orange in others

I have only seen BRG referred to in the MK2 sales literature. There is no Rootes paint code for a different dark green other than 86

I see something below that I've never heard of... " Electrically operated cooling fan" and the fact that you had to order it 'with' the car tells me it would be installed in UK. Wonder if a MKII ever came equipped that way ? I've certainly never seen one !!

I saw that on the brochure as well! Not in the Alpine or Tiger parts books, at least all of the editions I have... I wonder if it was like the South African built cars, or the Jag E-type which was basically windshield wiper motors with fans mounted to them! Another thing I see on the earlier brochures is a "brake" warning light... never seen one of those either.

I did finally find the Wipac reverse lamps in the parts books... As they were also used on later series V Alpines it's in the Alpine list. It does reference the switch for the Mk2 Tiger in the Alpine book as well. Nothing in the Mk2 Tiger parts list.

In one of the past Tiger Tales, Brian Glenn wrote about the different colors used on Tigers and when they were used. He wrote a paragraph just about the Forest Green/British Racing Green, based on Sunbeam brochures.

Of special note is the term “Forest Green” for color #86 on the early British home market brochure (1131/H), the French brochure (7800/EX/FR), and other European market literature. The term “British Racing Green” is used on the earliest US brochure (7763/EX/USA), as well as subsequent US and Canadian brochures (7801/EX/USA [original and revised], 7831/EX/USA, 7870/EX/CAN). By April of 1965, the French brochure (7803/EX/FR) has opted for “British Racing Green”. By September 1965, the British home market (with the assistance of Chrysler), as well as Canadian and European literature (1159/H, 8249/EX/CAN, 7832/EX/LHD, 7848/EX/FR) have adopted the term “British Racing Green” (1228/H). The use of the term “British Racing Green” is used for the duration of production as reflected in the British home market (1172/H) in March 1966 and US (7821/EX/USA) color schemes in September 1966. During the same period, the German brochure (7849/EX/GM) refers to #86 as “Rennbahn Grun” or “Raceway Green”.

The Rootes Alpine Parts Manual has a list of available brush-on paints. No paint codes are given. However, Forest Green is listed in the parts manual, but no British Racing Green. Is this because the early home market Tiger brochures referred to Forest Green and not to BRG. Is it because the brochures for the Alpines only referred to Forest Green? I do not know. Maybe someone out there knows if any of the Alpine brochures used the term British Racing Green.

Original brochure #7824/EX/USA. Kinda hard to read due to early morning lighting but Rootes clearly states British Racing Green with black upholstery.. I'm now close to 500 pieces of Rootes literature covering various Rootes marques in multiple languages so when I have a few hours to do nothing I'll check thru my three ring binders and see what I come up with that mention BRG.

Warren, did you notice that azure blue interior had also been dropped out in favor of black.

My car had a red interior as I was told.
I know of one black Tiger here in Ohio that had a tan interior. If you looked at our car when you were at SUNI then you know that the wife and I like red interiors.

Some additional info on color codes and formulae... I was recently asked if I could come up with a PPG (or other code) for Rootes #11 thistle grey. This is the color used on the hardtop of the last car for sale on bring a trailer. The PPG code is 31725. I found this code by looking at Singer paint codes. It's a series 1 only Alpine color as well.

some additional PPG codes

Carnival red 71144
Embassy black 9000

Glasurit paint codes use the original Rootes codes so Embassy black would be RTS-1

Sherwin Williams (Napa)

Carnival red 6310
Forest green 9577
